“With Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s popularity plummeting, a growing number of Democrats are asking whether state Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly should be the party’s only choices for governor,” John Wildermuth and Carla Marinucci report for The San Francisco Chronicle.
“Prominent Democrats ranging from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and former Rep. Leon Panetta to non-politicians such as businessman Steve Jobs and comedian Robin Williams are mentioned in the quiet conversations of Democratic activists, although no one is saying anything — at least publicly — about jumping into the race,” Wildermuth and Marinucci report.
“Steve Jobs, co-founder and head of Apple Computers and Pixar studios and a major donor to the Democratic Party, is another person regularly mentioned as a possible candidate for governor, O’Connor and others say,” Wildermuth and Marinucci report. “But for Jobs and many others, an important question remains: Do they have the interest in a thankless job like governor of California?”
Of Steve Jobs’s chances, Wildermuth writes, “Way too many Windows users out there.”

Wow. Imagine the Governor’s annual keynote.
How about a Demo, Governor Jobs?
errr … is not George W. Bush just about the hottest ‘lil Podcaster since Adam Curry? I mean .. the dude has skyrocketed up the iTunes Top 100 Podcast charts, blasting the bejeezus outta the House Dems Podcast and Diggnation alike.
Thanks for nothin’ Steve. Get that goat turd Bush outta there and I might think about supporting you if you make a bid for Governor.
Depending on what sort of software the voting machines run, they’ll either end up with Arnie “I’ll be back” Schwarzenegger or George Bush…
…bet it’s not OSX…
…sorry, I thought you were talking about Florida….
gwm, Al Franken is currently beating Dubya in the Podcast list.
Oh c’mon ….
Don’t load this genuis man with responsibilites of the state.
He is a creative guy. Let him focus on bringing cool products like the iPod and iMac to the rest of us!!
MDN word: miles
Yes, Apple, by all means, fake the iTunes Podcast Top 100 and remove George Bush due to politics. We all want a list that makes us feel comfortable with our incestuous world view, not one that reflects actual popularity.

MDN MW = “george” (now that’s scary!)
Steve Jobs as Governor? Dear God, I hope not
Jobs has a Job at apple. there is no point for him to be gov. Ahnold is doing just fine. this article is hogwash.
Why are we discussing politics here?
The growing Democratic Party…puhleaze.
yeah, the democrats did such a great job in CA before Arnold. Let’s put em in again!
Just stay at Apple/Pixar and do what you do best Steve. He is WAY too wacko hippy leftist to ever run for office…but then again, this is CA we’re talking about here…
That worm Bush isn’t popular at all. He’s a fascist freak. Have you heard his latest Podcast? It’s a nightmare!! Plus .. he’s got another demented episode coming out tomorrow. I shit you not.
And who’s enabeling him? Steve Jobs and his happy little iTunes Podcast charts, that’s who. Next thing you know, Jobs is prolly gonna be shoving Dick Cheney Podcasts down our throats, too!
Now here’s what you gotta do. You go right to that George Bush Podcast, subscribe to it and then start clicking on the button that says “Report a Concern”. You’ll get a page where you can tell Steve Jobs how that George Bush podcast is a dangerous piece of warmongering crap and you can demand that it receive the “Explicit” rating that it deserves.
Christ. What’s next? Podcasts from Nazis or something? Fix it quick, Steve .. or no Governor support from me.
yeah…. and if he was the iGov … maybe he could do for Apple what Bush did for his buddie Cheney … with the multi-trillion dollar no-bid contracts for Cheneys company, Haliburton !!
Nah …. the Right wing-nuts wouldnt go for it, I suppose …

Steve has more than enough to do, safe him for the Political ZOO !
20 years ago Steve grabbed my ass.
First, let’s look at some definitions here . . .
lib·er·al (lbr-l, lbrl) adj.
Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry.
Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.
Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
———–
con·ser·va·tive (kn-sûrv-tv) adj.
Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.
Traditional or restrained in style.
Moderate; cautious.
———–
Now, by definition, I don’t think either of these is better or worse than the other. As a matter of fact, together they constitute a reasonable balance. So, for crying out loud, can we PLEASE stop criminalizing “liberals?” What do you cons want? A totally right, Nazi society? Because without a healthy dose of liberalism in this country, that’s exactly what you’ll get.
Steve would make an interesting politician. Can you imagine him as president? “So Kim Jong Il, when how old were you when you lost your virginity? When was the last time you dropped acid?”.
Woz for vice president? Education in this country would certainly improve.
Nahhhh, I don’t want to see what would happen to Apple without him, and three jobs is too much.
I can just see all the campaign advisors telling SJ he needs to alter his wardrobe beyond jeans and black mock turtlenecks.
Politics needs creative thinkers in both sides of the political camp. Those in politics focus on winning not on making goverment work better. But, as a Pixar/Apple shareholder I want SJ to stay put.
Robin Williams?! I’m not sure how good a Governor he’d be, but I would so be there for any of his speeches…
Intelligence and politics don’t mix.
Arnold is rather cartoonish, but so far he is doing a great job of trying to break the stranglehold that the entrenched legislature and teacher’s union has on our state. The upcoming propositional election will have a lot to say about the near future of California, as well as Arnold’s.
It would be fun to have Robin Williams running his stream of conciousness chat at the state of the state address.
Anyone who thinks a political adgenda should censor what goes into iTMS needs to have their brains erased.
