“Nothing enhances a computer like an oversize display that pulses with color on graphically rich Web pages and also renders text with startling clarity, as when the eye doctor clamps a lens in place and all the blurry letters snap into focus,” Chris Cobb writes for The Orlando Sentinal. “Everything in the digitized world, from Impressionist downloads to Power Point presentations, looks its best on the 20-inch at the heart of Apple’s revised iMac G5 desktop systems.”

“There are a slew of Windows machines with roughly equal features that undercut the iMac on price. But they don’t match its clever design — 2 inches thick, a single cord trailing out of its backside — and they don’t run the slick new Mac OS X operating system, Tiger,” Cobb writes.

MacDailyNews Note: Cobb somewhat incorrectly states, “You can attach a second monitor, but it only mirrors what’s on the built-in screen.” That’s true by default, but the iMac G5′s video card will allow for monitor spanning, too. Apple uses monitor mirroring vs. monitor spanning to differentiate their “professional” Macs (Power Mac G5, PowerBook G4) from their “consumer” Macs. All you need is Screen Spanning Doctor to enable monitor spanning in iMacs — and iBooks and eMacs, too!
