The update does not confirm what you suspect. If every piece of software went out bug-free, there'd be no software. This only confirms that Tiger when to the DVD presses about 6 weeks ago. In that six weeks, more sustaining development occured resulting in an update. Do you really think there was 37MB of additional code? Or were 37MB (or 19MB depending on the update) of recompiled binaries included to replace the other ones the real answer?...

I do agree with you about the all of the GUI inconsistencies (Mail is my pet peave).

This update really confirms that Tiger was not ready when it was released ... to be issuing a 37MB update shortly after you've released the product is tantamount to an admission that you were looking for more Beta testers.

That said I'll be downloading it soon. I just wish Apple would really get it together ... my pet gripes ... HUI/GUI inconsistencies and applications that get a make over that actually makes them less elegant and more clunky to use - Quicktime Pro I'm looking at you.

If anyone else is having Quicktime plugin in Safari issues (Spinning Beach Ball of Death on any movie link) - under both 10.3.9 and 10.4 - can you post as to whether 10.4.1 fixes them.

I got a new Powerbook last week(my 1st Mac) from Amazon with 10.3.9, installed Office Pro, upgraded to 10.4.0 and just put on 10.4.1 - everything(including hiding the Dock, Petey) seems to work fine.

I must say that Tiger made me a switcher - I've got a Tablet PC and Windows Media Center in the house as well and I love that I can control the Media Center with Remote Desktop - now if Apple makes something I can use to record my HD TV stations(I have 3 tuners in the Media Center, 1 is Hi-Def), I would by an HD Airport Express and a Mac Mini and replace that Media Center in 2 seconds after having OS X as my main OS for a week. The features that Apple already has in the OS vs. XP are amazing and after seeing a Longhorn briefing yesterday, I think OS X is equal to or a step ahead there as well.

Kudos to this site and the Mac people out there, I've found everyone to be very helpful so far.

And, at least in this case, the 'Halo Effect' is VERY real - I bought an iPod when they came out(2001 battery still holding charge) and finally decided that I might try the Mac too. Glad I did!

Update went fine but I still can't print anything from iPhoto 5 on my crappy Epson Stylus C44.

Seems a bit snappier, and I'm glad nothing has stopped working (I haven't been able to print from iPhoto since installing Tiger).

Pages rocks, I've just typed my Resumé with it, such an easy learning curve compared to Word. Hopefully I can delete Word pretty soon and be 100% Micro$oft free before they start making you subscribe to use it (hehe).

MW: action - there's plenty of action going on in Micro$oft's photocopying department!

My only teensy issue with 10.4.0 was that the Finder would not unmount an unbusy, non-system, internal disk drive. The "Eject (disk name)" was missing from the drive icon contextual menu and the "Eject" item in the File menu was dimmed. 10.4.1 has the same issues.

Wonder why this one didn't make the cut to 10.4.1.

I used the 37MB download to update. Took 45 seconds to install, and 2 minutes for 1st boot. It also launched Setup Assistant and played the Tiger intro movie. Didn't expect to see that again.

Also, still can't use Suntrust bank's "transfer funds" feature, although this I'm sure is an issue with Suntrust's web page coding (Would you believe this BANK uses WINDOWS in its online banking system servers???)

"The update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed through Software Update. Because some updates are prerequisites for others, you may need to run Software Update more than once to get all available updates."

re: Different-sized updates

From the Apple description of the update:

“The update’s size may vary from computer to computer when installed through Software Update. Because some updates are prerequisites for others, you may need to run Software Update more than once to get all available updates.”

And for those who care: this update is Build 8B15

macnut222- yes, the Power Mac G5 intro movie.

Its wishful thinking, i know, but this guys hints, the machinery they show in the factory, the rumors circulating that have been circulating, and the chip used in that new X-Box (hopefully it performs better than it looks), it hints to some sort of multi core PowerPC to be used in the next Power Mac.... however, I doubt it will be the "G6" nor an upgraded "G5"

something new....

just day dreaming i guess
