i don’t think its possable to compete against PCs userbase and all the software and games made for them every year.

DO NOT ADVERTISE your operating system!!!
You lose your advantage by playing that advertising game.
There is no way to know if anyone sees your ads.

How many people know ANYONE with a Nielson box?

Apple has brand recognition.
The brand will lose if it goes mainstream

Found out enough about the Sociology/Psychobabble world 30 years ago to get a great job in the real world.

One where I can claim to have operating system experience of several kinds dating back to 1980.

That’s why I like Tiger and hope Apple tells the world about it instead of languishing away like a virgin in her castle waiting for her knight to come rescue her ( of course, without giving him a road map to get to the castle………like he should just know where she is!)

(Both type for a few seconds, camera shows boring Word page on PC then pans to show cool Pages page on Mac).

Person 2: How’s your project going? (camera pans back over to windows computer to show blue screen of death)

Person 1: (muttering to himself about viruses and spyware)

Person 2: Well, I’m done here. Good luck with that system… (stands up) or you could always use one that works… (exits)

(Person 1 looks around nervously, then moves over to the Mac and starts working.)

One computer, running Windows, is in a dark messy office. A harried user, unshaven and bleary-eyed, is trying to recover his data after a virus attack. He’s talking to an unhelpful software support person on the phone, error codes and meaningless jargon.

The other computer, a Mac, is in a clean home office, OS X on the screen. But no one is there. As the camera slowly moves around we see a window to the outside; it’s a beautiful day and a family is playing in the yard. Just the distant sound of birds and laughter.

Using something good and well designed that lets you be productive is fun. The more people using macs and being productive the better. If a redneck wants to use Filemaker to manage his gun collection (or, more likely, his construction or transportation business) then more power to him. Or her.

No one makes anyone else happy. In the case of a company who makes a great product, they just tell the world about their great product , the customer makes the decision about whether to buy or not to buy, and that customer is either happy or not, but whether you are “happy” or not does not affect whether I am.

Nobody knew a thing about them other than high price and that not many people used them. No knowledge of OS X at all.

One guy said, “You must be from out of town, you can’t buy a mac for a couple of hours around here.” (He was originally from Baltimore.)

It is hard to fault these folks since Apple hasn’t made much of an effort to tell anyone otherwise. Hell, there aren’t even TV ads for the mac mini.

It is pretty bad when the only way people in most of the country hear about the benefits of a mac is a from a bloated, loudmouthed drug addict.

You don’t remember the iMac ads where a guy is walking past a window making faces at the iMac, and it sticks its tongue out at him (the CD drive)

And if Apple creates a TV ad, I really really wish they’d forgo the “cool” part and just make it connect with the masses instead. I hate to say it, but Dell actually does a good job with respect to advertising (although most of their ads border on misrepresentation). Still, Dell manages to get its message across, no matter how far from the truth it may be.
