Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs named to ‘TIME 100’ list of most influential people in world today

TIME presents the TIME 100, their list of the 100 most influential people in the world today and in their “Leaders & Revolutionaries” category, under the subtitle, “Perpetual Innovation,” we find none other than Apple and Pixar CEI, Steve Jobs.

“When Steve Jobs evaluates something, it’s either ‘insanely great’ or an expletive that’s unpublishable here. This relentless perfectionism typifies how Steve views everything he has created in 28 years at Apple Computer and nearly 20 at Pixar Animation Studio. It also explains why he has been successful again and again in creating breakthrough products,” Terry Semel, chairman and chief executive officer of Yahoo! Inc., writes.

“Steve’s recipe for success? He’s a marketing and creative genius with a rare ability to get inside the imagination of consumers and understand what will captivate them. He is obsessed with the user’s experience. For every product his companies have released, it’s clear that someone actually asked, How can we “think different” about this? How can we innovate on an idea to make it appeal to mass audiences, to make it look cooler, easier to use, truly unique? Indeed, Steve’s hallmark is trendsetting design. Whether it’s the original Macintosh, the iMac, the iPod, the flat-panel monitor, even the Apple operating system, most of the company’s products over the past three decades have had designs that are three steps ahead of the competition,” Semel writes. “Steve’s brilliance as an innovator and marketer has revolutionized several industries. Whereas most creative people have just one big hit inside them, Steve has a drive and vision that renews itself, again and again. It leaves you waiting for his next move.”

  1. The problem at Apple is that Steve Jobs HAS NOT been there for 28 years. He left a company in good shape and came back to a train wreck. The company isn’t perfect, but it is pretty amazing for a US operation in this time and age.

  2. Er, shouldn’t the title read “Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs named IN ‘TIME 100’ list of most influential people in world today”, not “Apple Computer CEO Steve Jobs named TO ‘TIME 100’ list of most influential people in world today”?

The title doesn’t even make sense. Proofread people.

  3. When I read this article, I went back to my copy of the Time 100 done in 1999 that contained Bill Gates. In a smaller article about Steve Jobs, they called him “the Anti-Gates.” At the time I thought it was an insult. Now, six years later, I realise it was the highest compliment.

    Keep thinking different Steve.

  4. Any Time Magazine subscribers know how many letters were in that article ??

  5. Snack,

You are obviously not experienced in the English language, now are you? Is that your original tongue?

Being named “to” a list is perfectly acceptable usage. It’s used all of the time.

The saying of, “Don’t throw stones if you live in a glass house,” seems particularly apts at this point.

    KJ

  6. Would you rather have 90% market share, or would you rather influence the world–for the bettter? What would you rather look back on at the end of your life?

    Good job, Steve.
