RUMOR: New 3GHz PowerMac G5s and PowerBook HD coming at NAB in mid-April

“One detailed tipster claims that new PowerMacs will be announced at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters conference which takes place between April 16-21 in Las Vegas, NV,” arn reports for MacRumors.com. “The new machines will include the rumored 970MP starting at 2GHz, alongside 2.5GHz and 3.0GHz models… Memory support will be boosted to 32GB of RAM in the high end models with availability of 4GB DDR modules.”

arn reports, “While G5 PowerBooks are not expected, a higher resolution ‘PowerBook HD’ is expected to be debuted at NAB as well. The new model is expected to simply boost the resolution of the current 17″ PowerBook.”

  1. in the dual 2ghz you can have 16gbs actually with 2gb cards because the u3 memmory controller supports it.
    Why not add 8 more slots and save tons of money? And what about PCIe with SLI?

  2. It would sorta make sense to announce these machines at a smaller venue than WWDC, particularly as this represents a somewhat embarassing acheivement (3.0GHz a year later than initially announced).

    And it sounds like the Powerbook HD will be little more than a screen upgrade (and I’m not sure how much value a HD screen would have on a laptop).

    Most of the rumors imply that the focus of WWDC will be Tiger, rather than any new hardware.
