RUMOR: New 3GHz PowerMac G5s and PowerBook HD coming at NAB in mid-April

“One detailed tipster claims that new PowerMacs will be announced at the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters conference which takes place between April 16-21 in Las Vegas, NV,” arn reports for MacRumors.com. “The new machines will include the rumored 970MP starting at 2GHz, alongside 2.5GHz and 3.0GHz models… Memory support will be boosted to 32GB of RAM in the high end models with availability of 4GB DDR modules.”

arn reports, “While G5 PowerBooks are not expected, a higher resolution ‘PowerBook HD’ is expected to be debuted at NAB as well. The new model is expected to simply boost the resolution of the current 17″ PowerBook.”

  1. RUMOR: Possible Apple HD cable company?

Hubble Space Telescope was improperly aligned and caught these images of a secret satellite launched 4 months ago by the European Space Agency. I was able to download this image sequence before NSAS removed it from their website upon the “demand of a corporate request”.

    See it here…

    “resoluation” should be “resolution”

    Doesn’t anyone proof-read any more?

    ****************************************

    “any more” should be “anymore”

    and,

    “proof-read” should be “proofread”

So, what was that you were saying about proofreading again?

  3. Damn it! The Apple wireless keyboard is not red wine resistant!

Oh.. about the new machines.. GREAT we definately need more horse power..

Apple sells too many computers ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” /> If you place the order today.. you get it after weeks of waiting. Why didn´t Apple buy IBM´s factories?

brought to you by the magic word actually as in yes it’s actually that big

  5. It may well be Macrumors who are, of course, full of crap – but there are some interesting signs.

Here in the UK, Apple are running a business finance offer (first two payments free) on PowerMac G5s and displays which runs out on April 20th.

Don’t know if any other end-markets are running offers which are obviously “pro” in nature and aimed at clearing stock.

I’ve had NAB figured as a launchpad for a whole load of stuff for somewhile, especially as Apple have been sending invites to the press for an event.

  6. bscepter – “So, Crucial is selling 4GB sticks for $2,999.99. That would mean that the memory alone would cost almost $24,000!”

That would be nice. The problem is the 4GB sticks from Crucial are unbearably SSLLOOWW.

    4GB DDR PC2100 CL=2.5 REGISTERED ECC DDR 266

    Id rather have

    2GB DDR2 PC2-4200 CL=2 REGISTERED ECC DDR2-400

Oh and 32 gigs of memory is nothing new. XP x64 (and other OS’s) support up to 128 gigs of physical memory and 16 terabytes of v. memory. The problem is that you cannot find PCB’s with that many slots. (We use clusters for rendering)So until the archetecture reaches that level…Dream On.

    Thanks. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

  8. I wouldn’t believe this rumor to be true on any other day but the fact of the matter is that there hasn’t been a powermac upgrade (processor) wise in over a year. And there will be no G5 powerbook this year, think more like first quarter of 2006. If anything this year we will see dual-core g4’s from freescale.

  9. Butt Pirate – That’s the point. OSX can handle a whole lot more memory and virtual memory. What there saying is there expecting hardware that can handle that much memory, not software.

  10. Anybody who has a G5 PowerMac can stick more than 8GB it it. The machine can recognize on the order of EXAbytes of memory. The limitation is in the modules, not the machine (although 8 slots is better than 4…).

There’s no real info here other than there are now 4GB RAM modules for sale.
