“I’m not sure I’m completely sold on the idea that the iPod Photo will be as much a smash success as the regular iPod. Although it might be a great tool for parties if you’re showing off tens of thousands of digital photos of your lovely children or your last vacation, I have a hard time imagining that photos are as catchy on this platform

Playing back Keynote files – That is a great idea! May be Belkin can make laser pointer/remote control wheel. Playing MS PowerPoint may make many mac users sick, but I think Apple will able to sell many iPods. Possibly a trojan horse into business! (Now, I will go wash my hand with bleach).

The woman has lost it.

First, it’s called “iPod Photo.” That means it’s an iPod first, then Photo. So, most users will use it as an iPod. For music. The fact that it also does photos will appeal to those who want it to hold and display digital photos.

For those who don’t want digital photos on their iPod, well, they’ll just have to settle for the lower priced, uh, um, regular iPods that only do music.

Really, how do these writers get jobs as writers when it’s obvious there’s no thinking behind those words. How will the iPod Photo fail?

If media expectations are that the iPod Photo will outsell current iPods and iPod minis, then it’ll be a BIG failure. However, only idiot writers like that one have such a misunderstanding.

Please tell me, MDN… where do you get these pieces? No one’s better at dragging front and center the poster children for “These Children Were Left Behind.”

Keep at it. Sooner or later they’ll all be exposed for what they are…

I don’t think that Apple is expecting iPod Photo to be a huge seller like the standard iPod and the mini. At least I hope they are not expecting that. It’s a cool product, but with a limited audience I would think.

I would love to see all my carefully downloaded album covers show up on my iPod screen, but not for that cost…

I also think that adding too many features is not the way to go with the iPod. Don’t mess with the simplicity and ease of use. Instead they should focus on improved battery life and lower price.

I think Apple is banking on the color screen being the driving force behind sales.

Based on reports, it seems the photo section is not as useful for several reasons:

1. No built-in card reader.
Sure, you can buy a third-party product to fill the need, but why (especially at that price level)?

2. Tied in to iTunes.
Is iTunes to become the default imaging program? Isn’t there an iLife app for that? and isn’t that app strictly for the Mac? What about PC users (like me, although I use both)?

With that said. I wish they intoduced the color screen when I bought my last iPod. Now I’ve got to wait until it breaks.

Hopefully, by the time the next-next-gen iPod/other player comes out, it’ll be open-standard, have full-res video and still image support with built-in I/O ports, have a 24+ hour battery, and cost around $300.

A slight OS revision perhaps. I’m guessing that this thing could have some serious horsepower with slight revisions. Maybe in the next version perhaps. Something along the lines of Canon’s DIGIC processor for its cameras.

Since the dock for iPod Photo has an S-Video out port, it is very conceivable that Apple could make this device a very slick Keynote presentation tool. All one would need is an iPod Photo with their presentation loaded onto it and they would be in business. Come to think of it, if they made the iPod have WiFi built in, they could also attach the iSight camera to it via Firewire and have streaming iChat conversations. Interesting….

It’s been said before… the iPod is and never will be a fully-fledged PDA. It is designed for Music, and now Photos, and isn’t targeted to the business market like PDAs are. There are many PDAs and combo cell phones on the market that provide what you’re asking for.

BTW, the 60GB iPod photo is $800 here in Canada. That’s nuts.

If they made a regular 60gig without the photo capabilities it would appeal to those who just want the music. But if like me you want/need 60gigs you’re stuck. But the photo side of it is optional. Even if you never use that function it’s nice to know it’s there just in case.

As for the price. I’m still thinking about it, and I know as soon as/if I buy one something cheaper and better will come out. I guess this time next year will be the unveiling of the 80gig video ipod. It depends how long one is willing to wait

Here in Australia it’s $950. Which when you do the math, If it’s $599US that makes it around $800AU. I don’t know why we’re getting slugged an extra 150 bucks. We don’t even have the Music Store. Although I hear that it’s coming.
