Analysts predict Apple’s new iMac will boost sales

“Apple Computer’s products aren’t just products, they are symbols of the company’s long-held belief that style is at least as important as substance in a market,” Rex Crum reports for CBS.MarketWatch.com. “Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich said the new iMac should boost Apple’s computer sales from 210,000 in the September quarter to 260,000 in the December period. After the iMac was shown off, Milunovich raised his 2005 estimates for Apple to a profit of 90 cents a share on $9.53 billion in revenue, from 87 cents a share on revenue of $9.3 billion.dominated by drab industry standards… Roger Kay, of IDC said that while he would have liked to see Apple roll out an iMac for under $1,000, ‘this price range is not so bad, and it’s a good design in line with what we’ve come to expect from Apple.'”

  1. Message to Thurrott:

    Hi Paul,

Congratulations! You have just won an award!

    Biggest Bullshitter Ever

This award was based upon your many sites, and takes into account your total inability to write anything without putting your anal comments as a footnote.

Although you tell your readers you are not bias, it is obvious to all that for some unknown reason you find it easy to find fault with almost everything Apple does, but cannot see the failings of the company you love so much – Micro$oft.

I’d love to hear your views about Micro$ofts decision to completely strip features from the ‘upcoming’ (2006 I believe) Longhorn. Or maybe the people who pay your salary (which we believe is Micro$oft) would not look too kindly on it.

Please, please seriously consider a new career – you are a terrible anal yst.

    Regards

  2. You know what? There is certainly one nasty person going to say nothing but bad no matter how good of a product Apple comes up with. And we all know who that nasty person is.

  3. Apple comes out with a new iMac. No *@&# will sales go up. Thanks Sherlock!!!

On another note, I think Apple has hit the price right. $1299 for starters?!? I paid $1999 for my iMac 2 years ago. Now I can upgrade to a G5 and save $700?

Who would’ve known….I better not hear anyone complain that it’s too pricey.

  4. Under $1,000 huh? Ok Mr. Kay, name me one major PC manufacturer that sells an all-in-one computer WITH a 17″ widescreen LCD that has it priced for under $1,000. If there are none (and there aren’t), then why do you expect this from Apple? Why do these bozos anal-ysts pick these pie in the sky numbers from their ass with no basis in logical business market sense to ever back them up. It’s just hilarious how these morons hold a job…

  5. Hey guys, guess what? Paul Thurrott is moonlighting as a writer (sic) at Mac360. No, it’s true.

“New iMac: Bargain Power or Crippled And Weak Computer Toy?”
    http://www.mac360.com/index.php/mac360/more/new_imac_bargain_power_or_crippled_and_weak_computer_toy/

It’s a different name, but it’s gotta be him. In fact, come to think of it, maybe Thurrott and Rob Enderle and this guy Jack Miller are all the same guy. The write the same, they think the same, come on, it’s gotta be!

  6. Not even close…

No WiFi no Bluetooth no video recording system no video at all…

    What a joke !

Just an Emac toaster oven looking thing.

and all the wires come out of the side that is a real attractive look… how about something to clean up my desk not put more wires on top of it !

  7. I’m confused. Why are you guys bagging on Thurrott (I mean other than the fact that he’s an idiot, but that’s not news)? He doesn’t appear to have written this article, and he’s not even quoted in it. In fact the article is quite positive.

Did MacDailyNews confuse the links between the article and the user posts or something?

  8. Don’t just read reports and come and say things here.. there are some people who read other news sites apart from MDN (The CNET news collection has an article that points exactly at these things). At least be courteous to point to that article.

Secondly, bluetooth and wi-fi may be added to the computer if needed. They are not there as default configuration. How many consumer PC desktops come with default installation of bluetooth and wi-fi. Even if they come default, how does it matter as long as one can add.

Right now, there’s no custom config option (hopefully, it will come soon), where I would like to replace the 20″ with Combo drive rather than SuperDrive, as it would suffice my options.

So, don’t just take points from other websites.. and just post it here.. just do some thinking at least before you post.

  9. Uhu? Sputnik what are you smoking? Must be really strong.

All those “No this no that” where all in all they are what? $200 add-ons when you configure it as you like?

Troll more, like “What? No 2GB memory?”

Could anyone point me to ANY brand with a 64-bit machine at the price range Apple sells them AND configured as one?

Wires off the side? what prevents you to have them follow the path of the power cord: all off the back and hidden when in front of the machine.

No bluetooth? Geez, not only smoking but also on crack. Apple is suggesting to add BT keyboard and mouse so to have a completely cable-free desk.

What a Joke. Sputnik you have been orbiting around the Earth for too long: it is no more the ’60. Stop smoking and LAND.

  10. Dudes! You smoking crack? It says wireless keyboard & mouse!!! They both use BLUETOOTH! Therefore it has BLUETOOTH!

Here’s what it says on Apple’s website:

The Apple Wireless Keyboard and Apple Wireless Mouse let you take advantage of Bluetooth technology to give you a degree of freedom from physical restraint that you cant even imagine until you try it.

    http://www.apple.com/bluetooth/

    Duh!

  11. The bluetooth module is a $50 add-on through the Apple Store. The bluetooth keyboard and mouse are a $99 add-on through the Apple store. It’s bluetooth capable, but it’s not automatically built in.
