Looks like Mac users are beholden to Microsoft for Windows emulation for the foreseeable future:
“Recent management changes at FWB has led to a major evaluation of the status of development work including Realpc. ‘Since taking over F.W.B. software on July 17th one of the first priorities was determining the status of all development work on going by FWB.’ explained Marko Kostyrko, FWB’s new CEO,” states the FWB website.
“He continued, ‘The previous management had made claims in press interviews and on the company website regarding the status and upcoming release of RealPC OSX claiming it was in late beta and about to be released. After more thorough investigation and interviews with the previous staff, we have found that the development had not formally been started, and it appears not a single line of code has been written. FWB has not to date even received the source code upon which any development would as the foundation to build a new RealPC for OSX. I am sorry to have to admit that apparently the company has been a party to vaporware when it comes to the claims regarding RealPC,'” states the FWB website.
“In reviewing the status, it was determined that the development cost including licensing fees made the project unattractive. Therefore, the new management has determined that it is not in the best interests of FWB to go forward with the development of RealPC. Honesty and openness with the user base is a cornerstone of the new management team. We are developing software to return FWB Software to it’s historic position as a leader in disk utility software,” states the FWB website.

Microsoft confirms VirtualPC incompatible with Apple’s G5 – August 27, 2003
Hmm, was it vapourware, or have the new management just received a large chunk of “disk utility software” development money from somewhere need Seattle?
With the announcement that the G5 can’t yet run VPC, giving MS the perfect reason to delay any VPC for it for years, this seems a little too convenient.
Free x86 emulator–Bochs:

Is this a reasonable alternative? I haven’t used it.
Bochs is no Virtual PC (at least before Bill got his grubby hands on it). face it, VPC got too close and MS won’t stand for that.
It’s too bad that in this day and age, at least in this country, that creative thought and businesses can be blindsided, pruchased and generally become non-existant by the deed and greed of monopolies….oh, excuse me, our illustrious government made a decree that Micro$not wasn’t a monopoly, just misunderstood business practices……RealPC was in direct violation to what ‘gates wanted in emulation software, so he got rid of it and the creativity behind the product, and then made his product impotent to the newest Mac so that one couldn’t say that “windblows runs faster on a Mac than on a intel chip…….”
Pertty impressive for a greedy little piece of work.
Doesn’t this whole mess with Real PC & VPC crystalize the precise reason why people switch to Macs and Linux every day? You just can’t keep dealing with the devil…
Why would anyone want to run Windows on a Mac in the first place?
If it doesn’t run on the Mac, I find something that will, simple as that. If I find a web site cobbled together by incompetent Wintel drones that don’t know how to support multi-platform, multi-browsers, I take my business elsewhere.
If more people started voting with their wallets instead of paying $$ to run poorly written Windows only garbage on the Mac OS, perhaps we wouldn’t need VPC applications. ??
