“Security experts who have studied Blaster say its code will wake up every infected computer Saturday and make it visit the Microsoft Web site that publishes fixes and updates to its software. This tactic, called a denial-of- service attack, is designed to swamp a Web site and shut it down. Blaster’s code also contains this message: ‘Billy Gates why do you make this possible? Stop making money and fix your software,’”reports Tom Abate for the San Francisco Chronicle.

“Taylor said it appeared that Blaster’s creator, or creators, have found a way to infect large numbers of home computers and then to use these infected machines to attack Microsoft — a tactic that seems to be a novelty. ‘It will be very interesting to see how the Net is going to handle this,’ said Taylor, who thinks traffic on the Web could increase 10-fold on Saturday – - potentially disrupting the overall Internet while also making it difficult for Microsoft to do business as usual,” Abate reports.

Abate continues, “In San Francisco, where construction engineer Clay Drake was handling a tantrum from his 9-month-old baby at the same time that his new Windows PC was crashing, whatever means necessary couldn’t come soon enough. ‘It kinda makes me want to go back to my Macintosh,’ said Drake, a longtime Apple user who only recently bought his first PC.”
